The Sundance Legacy
The Story of where it all started..
Originally purchased by my father, Tom Tuttle, in the spring of 1976 at Walker Chevrolet in Tacoma, WA, the truck came equipped with a sleeper and a CB. My parents drove it up the Alcan to Alaska. When it arrived in the summer of ’76, it was dressed in all the classic 70’s paint. Painfully enough, Dad sold the dually in the fall of ’78—technically never to be seen on the road again.
But in 2005, it resurfaced. My uncle had it after a few decades of sitting. We drove about 50 miles to go get it. I hadn’t seen the dually since I was 6 years old, so the initial shock of finding it was pretty monumental. The story was that “it had a bad piston.” Last tagged in 1981, it had been sitting since 1980 and still had only 64k original miles.
Back at my shop in the summer of 2005, we began a two-year rebuild to get the dually back on the road. With all the excitement of bringing this project back to life and getting Dad in it again… painfully, Dad passed away from cancer in 2006. But we stayed motivated. We rebuilt the original 454, cleaned up the body, preserved the rest, and started driving it full time in 2009.
Floating on… the 1978 454 Kona speed boat was added in 2010. It was shipped from Skagen Marine in Washington and shortly after painted to match the factory Chevrolet Yuba Gold and Cordova Brown.
The Next Chapter, To continue the memory.. faith, family and sunshine! In 2022, we made the move to Arizona, and we are very happy to say that Sundance now has 71k miles, many built memories, with the odometer still spinning. Most of the time, you'll find us up Saguaro Lake, enjoying the beautiful Arizona climate and year-round sun.
God Bless,
